Are you allowed to kayak on any river?
As long as you hold a licence, you can paddle on any of the 2,200 miles of canals and rivers administered by the Canal & River Trust. An additional licence allows you to paddle on other rivers which are maintained by the Environment Agency, including the non-tidal Thames west of London.
Can you kayak down the River Avon?
Our River Avon is perfect for paddleboarding. It is also the perfect river for paddleboard trips. Some of the lock portages are difficult for kayaks, but much easier for paddleboards.
Can I use my kayak anywhere?
You can kayak virtually anywhere in the world with a large enough body of water. Unlike some other vessels, you can strap a kayak to the roof of your car and head out on a new adventure. You can explore calm lakes, river rapids, quiet creeks and serene seas.
Do I need a licence to kayak on River Avon?
The Hamshire Avon and th River Wye are not regulated and therefore do not need a licence.
Do I need a license to kayak on the Avon?
Any commercial operators wishing to operate on the Avon, offering lessons, hiring craft or even for a visit, require written consent from ANT prior to operating on the river as well an Avon Navigation Commercial Licence per craft. This is a legal requirement stipulated in the bylaws.
Do you need a river licence for a kayak?
If you’re paddling on the sea, estuaries or tidal water, or on a river or canal which doesn’t require a licence, then that’s fine, you don’t need one! Check where you’re paddling first to see if there are any licence requirements on that stretch.
