Are full face dive masks dangerous?
Pride of Maui recently banned full-face masks from its snorkel tours, citing the potential dangers of carbon dioxide build-up leading to dizziness, headaches or unconsciousness. The company says on its website that this can also happen with poorly designed standard snorkel tubes.
How deep can you dive with a full face scuba mask?
With a snorkel mask you can dive to a maximum depth of 1 to 2 meters. The reasons for this are that the mask already presses strongly against the face at shallow water depths due to the trapped air. In addition, snorkel mask wearers cannot equalize the pressure (e.g. by holding the nose shut while breathing out).
How does full face mask work?
full-face snorkel masks keep the air inside of the mask circulating around so that there is a clear separation between the new, fresh air coming in and the carbon dioxide that you’ve been breathing out. … These valves keep the amount of oxygen in the mask at a steady rate without mixing any of the carbon dioxide into it.
